Fashola commends NDPHC boss for completion of distribution sub-station in Asaba

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has applauded the efforts of the MD/CEO of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), Chiedu Ugbo for the completion of the new 2x 15MVA 33/11KV Injection Sub-station at Asaba, Delta State, and in restoring power to Magboro and its environs in Ogun State after 17 years of non-supply.

The Minister made this commendation at the 21st Monthly Power Sector Operators meeting hosted by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday, 13th of November, 2017.

While commending the Delta State Government for its desire to assist the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to ensure sustained power supply in the state, Fashola said that the progress made in the sector was due to hard work and the peace recorded in the Niger Delta, stressing that for the first time, both hydro and gas supply systems worked without interruption, hence the improvement in power generally across the country.

The NIPP was established as a major key to bringing in steady and uninterrupted electricity supply with 10 gas- fired power plants, seven of them situated in the Niger Delta for ease of access to gas feedstock. This $7.1 billion generation asset was to deliver 4,771mw, which will be transmitted and distributed across the country. NIPP, managed by the NDPHC, was a gas-for-power initiative, like the Marshall Plan, gas being Nigeria’s most reliable source of power ahead of hydro.

The Minster also used the occasion at Asaba to commend other players in the sector and announced some progress that the power sector had made in the last one month in the journey of incremental, steady and uninterrupted power.
