The equity market closed for the trading week yesterday due to Eid el-Maulud celebrating today, as it appreciated further when the All Share Index gained 0.62 per cent to close at 37,944.60 points compared with the appreciation of 0.55 per cent recorded on Wednesday.
The appreciation recorded in the share prices of Total Nigeria, International Breweries, Forte Oil, Dangote Sugar and Dangote Cement was mainly responsible for the gain recorded in the Index
Week-on-week, the Index gained 1.55 per cent, while month-on-month, it appreciated by 3.45 per cent with year-to-date appreciating by 41.19 per cent.
Similarly, the Market Capitalisation appreciated by 0.62per cent to close at N13.21 trillion, compared with the appreciation of 0.55per cent recorded on Wednesday to close at N13.13 trillion.
The total value of stocks traded on the floors of The NSE was N21.38 billion, up by 423.1 per cent from N4.09 billion recorded on Wednesday.
The total volume of stocks traded was 11.77 billion in 5,152 deals.
Transnational Corporation emerged the most traded equity on Thursday with an exchange of 11.323 billion shares worth N14.217 billion, followed by Fidelity Bank having accounted for 117.185 million shares valued at N246.114 million.
