The Ekiti State Commis-sioner for Education, Science and Technology Mr. Foluso Daramola has commended the Committee on the Education Laws of Ekiti State for working in line with the terms of reference given to them by the Ministry.

Mr. Daramola gave the commendation in Ado Ekiti on the occasion of the presentation of the reviewed Education Draft laws of Ekiti State.

He said that the draft Education law would be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for proper scrutiny and eventually integration into the laws of Ekiti.

He further said that the law would correct a lot of lapses in the current one being used in the State and will go a long way to meet international standard practice on Education.

Earlier in her speech the Chairman of the Ekiti State law review committee Mrs. Desola Oke lamented that in the 20 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria, some of Educational parastatals are still using edit that was proclaimed by the Military for over 3decades ago. She said that it is an indication that most of the laws guiding the Education sector are obsolete and needs urgent review to meet the present modern days in teaching and learning environment.

The Chairman further stated that the Education Laws inherited from Ondo State have become irrelevant to our needs in certain aspects of Education in Ekiti State, adding that there is a pressing need to bring them up to date.

She also stressed that in the pursuit of this noble assignment, the committee worked tirelessly and received memoranda from all agencies and parastatals of the Ministry.

Mrs. Oke noted that these memoranda were then carefully studied in order to achieve that desired purpose for which they were requested. The terms of reference were also given adequate consideration during the sessions of the committee.

The chairman of the committee announced that the Education Laws have been reviewed to enhance a dynamic growth in Education in Ekiti State and also meet the current global best practices.
