The peaceful demonstration tagged ‘Otoge Rally organized by all socio-cultural and self-determination groups in Yoruba land with the theme: The future and status of Yoruba in Nigerian Federation ought to take place in all southwestern states such as: Lagos, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara and Kogi failed in Oyo state as the Organizing committee did not receive letter of permit from the appropriate government quarters.
The Oyo state Department of State Security, The Nigeria Army and Civil Defence Cops arrested 4 protesters of Yoruba Summit Group (an amalgamation of all socio-cultural and self-determination groups in Yoruba land) during a peaceful demonstration to mark the pronouncement of June 12 as democracy day.
During the course of the failed protest, one of the four leading activists, Kunle Hamzat was arrested around in the early hours of yesterday in front of the government house, Agodi Ibadan, after which Comrade Akeem Lawal, chairman, committee for defense of Human rights, alongside other two other activists were also arrested during a peaceful demonstration on the same spot.
The president of the Federation of Human Rights movement, Oyo state chapter, Comrade Laoye Sanda, while reacting to the arrest described the siege on the peaceful demonstration as counterfeit to the declaration of president Muhammad Buhari of June 12 as democracy remembrance day. Maintaining that the group will seek redress in court.
Meanwhile, neither of the security operatives nor government parastatal has any comment on the development in Ibadan yesterday.
