A Divisional Police Officer ( DPO name withheld) in one of the divisions in warri, Delta state is at present in trouble for allegedly assualting two Sisters and their mother at the weekend.

It was gathered that the police boss allegedly beat up and stripped naked two sisters and their mother over a landlord/ tenant dispute in warri as the incident report had gone viral on the internet

Sources said that the DPO who heads one of the divisions in warri metropolis, is running helter skelter to save his Job following petitions against him by two human rights activists to the Inspector General of Police ( IGP) Adamu Mohammed

Though the Divisional Police Officer denied the story to be untrue, adding that he was not around when the incident happened, but the National Chairman of Human Rights Defenders Organization, Sir Casely Omon- Irabor who Confirmed the incident, said that his establishment was contacted on the issue, adding” we sent two of our lawyers to go and find out and we were told that the police stripped naked the first daughter of the woman who is now a widow, and our lawyers tried to intervene but they didn’t listen to them”

He added” when I told him that I have him on video and photograph that he pushed for settlement,we will follow the matter to the letter and ensure Justice in the incident”

The victims had alleged that one of their tenants invited the police to their home where the policemen dragged them to their station and before the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) who allegedly stripped them naked after their efforts for a defence proved abortive, adding that the tenant owed rents three months but also failed to pay hence they issued him quit notice

The victims who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity said” we gave him quit notice for four months which expired this December 2019,but he refused to pay to pay,we asked to pack out, instead he brought armed ,policemen, they were shooting sporadically and then came to our house and arrested all of us, dragging us on the ground and kicking us ,we were begging them to let us be, instead the Policemen in the presence of their DPO stripped naked after beating us”

They pulled our wrappers, dragged us on the ground, they bundled us into their patrol vehicle and took us to the police station where we met the DPO , and we have never seen or know the DPO before as it was our first time to have seen him, instead the DPO told us we were disturbing the peace of the area and ordered the policemen to start beating us, before they threw into the cell where we stayed before we were released on bail for no reason adduced for our Offences”

But in a swift reaction, the Police Commissioner in the state, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwah who Confirmed the incident report, said that the lawyers reported through Petition a case of assualting two Sisters and their mother against the”C Division” Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) adding that investigation was ongoing in the matter as action will be taken against the DPO if found guilty in the matter and advised members of the public to always obey the rule of laws involving the police and they to avoid taking the laws into their hands.

Meanwhile the leaders and members of Police Community Relations Committee, ( PCRC) Sapele Area Command, have agreed to assist the Police to fight crime in the area, adding that it was the only way to substainable development in the area.

The Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Olivia Eyefia who spoke to Journalists in the area said that the aim of the Committee was to bridge the gap between the police and the Community, especially in the area of effective Policing and Communication as they were poised to turn around things in Sapele town and its environs
