The Age- long Crisis rocking Batan – Diebiri Community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state over Surveillance and grass Cutting of Trans- Forcados Pipeline right of way, has been resolved by the state government.
Confirming this to Journalists on Monday at a Press Conference in Asaba, Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Chief Edwin Uzor, said that during investigations into the Crisis, discovered that the Community leadership was divided and serving individuals” interest, rather than Collective leadership and Community interest, adding after its mediation process and restoration of peace among the Stakeholders, it was the duty of the Community executive to recommend Companies that would Carry out Contract venture to Oil
According to him, the GMOU between Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited and Host Communities where OML30 and 42 Facilities were Situated in Delta state, was not between an individual and the Company but between the Community and the Company for the Purpose of recongnizing Indigenous Contractors and Companies.
Uzor however Called on the Community leaders and Stakeholders to Stop heating up the Polity over the award of Contracts, adding that Contractors who had subsisting Contracts with the oil firms should be allowed, while equity and fairness should be adopted in reviewing Contracts among Indigenous Contractors, and averred that government will not Sacrifice Community peace for Individual interests, and directed that surveillance contracts should be left in the hands of tested and trusted persons, who had been involved in such Jobs over time, Stressing that intending Contractors should be throughly Screened to assercertain their level of experience, maturity, dedication and affection for the Job in order to mobilize economic sabotage.
He therefore Called on the leaders of Batan Diebiri Community to always toe the line of peace as government will not tolerate acts that would distrupt oil exploration or Production in the state nor Criss borne out of Selfish desires
Meanwhile, the recent recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, ( IGP) Mohammed Adamu Abubakar to the Presidency that the Police in Nigeria Should adopt Community Policing as a way of tackling insecurity in the Country, Came under Strong Critisms from the Former Police Commissioner of Police in Delta state, Chief Ikechukwu Aduba who recommended that under the Proposed Community Policing approche, the force would use Spies to Combat insecurity in the Country, saying that the Spies approch would amount to the inability to the Police force and the nation in the long run.
This development, Chief Aduba said had made the world rating of the Nigeria Policeforce to be below the ladder, adding that there should be regular and quality training for Policemen as that it was sad that all but one of the police Institutions in Nigeria was dead.
