The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island port command on Wednesday said it intercepted containers filled with 150 live ammunition in two separate operations in Lagos .
That unit public relation officer, Uche Ejesieme, stated that operation was carried out on the 9th and 10th of the month by it unit intercepted catches of ammunition.
He disclosed that the first incident at the terminal ‘C’ II (port & Cargo) involves 1 by 40 feet container No. TGHU 60143419, which on scheduled examination was found to contain live ammunition and jack knife.
He said that the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Muse Abdullahi directed the transfer of the suspicious container to the enforcement unit where it was examined and found to contain one hundred and fifty rounds of live ammunition and twenty eight pieces of various sizes of jack knives.
Uche disclosed that the items contravenes schedule 4 Absolute Import Prohibited List item 17 of the common external tariff and section 46 of the Customs and excise management act Cap C45 LFN 2004.
He added that it command during Routine Tally Operations while discharging vehicles from a vessel MV GLOVIS COURAGE VOYAGE NO.036 at 0330hrs of 10th July at the five star logistics terminal intercepted a black bag in one unpacked Ford edge with chassis no. 2FMDK48C98BA05947.
In his statement, “The bag was found to contain the following : 149 rounds of 38mm calibre live ammunition, 92 rounds of 9mm calibre live ammunition, 2 rounds of 7.62mm calibre live ammunition, 11 cartridges of live ammunition, 12 expended empty shells of various calibre, 1empty magazine”.
Adding that the container, a suspect and the exhibit are current been held at the enforcement station pending further investigation.
