According to residents who craved anonymity, cultists and thugs have taken over the community that they terrorize residents with impunity.
Investigations revealed that residents of Ijoko no longer sleep with both eyes closed for the fear of either armed robbery or clash among cult groups.
Speaking with Nigerian NewsDirect, a resident who craved anonymity because he would not want to be attacked narrated how the community was invaded by armed thugs that led to the death of some cult members in the area.
He said, “On that fateful, we were noticing strange faces in the neighbourhood and we called the Police and informed them of the development.
“I believe that was why these thugs did not strike during the day because some policemen came and raided some guys that we were told were cult members.
“I cannot say whether these thugs were released that same day, but we started hearing gunshots and noise in the early hours of the following day.”
He also alleged that the criminals displayed their weapons in broad day light to rob people of their belongings.
He stated further that the kingship war could have been responsible for the number of arms the criminals are using to terrorise the community. “The increase in criminal activities along with acts of thuggery in Ijoko has become a major concern for both residents and governmentlikewise.
“There is need for government to as a matter of urgency review thesecurity situation inother to know what it would do to it.” Another resident said there is need for a Divisional Police Station in Ijoko stressing that the rate of crime in that axix warranted one. He said, “Crime rate in Ijoko is too high for the community not to have its own police station. There is a need for a full fledged police station with armed operative to combat criminality in the community. When contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, MuyiwaAdejobi said the the command was aware of cult clash in the area. “We are aware of fight between two rival cult group in Ijoko and we have swung into action. We arrested some members of the cult group on Sunday and as am talking to you, raiding of their hideout is going onthough I can’t tell you the number of people arrested so far because us still ongoing, but the command is doing everything to restore peace to the community.
Adejobi also stated that the Commissioner of Police today launched a rebranded special anti robbery squad and their motive is to combat cultism in the state.
“With the training and sophisticated weapon the rebranded anti robbery squad had in their possession we will curtail them and ensure we make Ogun State hot for them,” he said.
