An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday, sentenced a 28-year-old driver, Tobi, to three months in prison with hard labour for stealing a car battery valued at N30,000.
According to the news men, Magistrate S.K Matepo, sentenced Tobi to prison after he pleaded guilty to the theft without an option to pay a fine.
“You are hereby sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour and without an option of fine. The sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to engage in similar acts,” she said.
At the arraignment, the convict pleaded guilty and blamed his action on the devil. Tobi further pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the convict committed the offense on July 19 at Ogba, Ikeja.
He said that the convict stole the battery from a bus belonging to Mr Oladimeji Ishola.
The offense, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
