Court remands man over alleged destruction of three hundred million naira crops

A 40-year-old Fulani man, Mohamodu Umar was remanded by a Magistrate Court’s sitting in Osogbo over alleged malicious damage of crops worth three hundred million naira.

The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Adepoju Kayode during the sitting on Wednesday, told the court that Umar committed the offence on February 7, 2020, at about 4:00 pm around Egbedi Area.

Sergeant Kayode further alleged that the defendant did maliciously cause damages, by allowing his cows to enter and graze five acres of land, planted with Maize and cassava valued at three million naira and property of one Alhaji Isah Salawudeen.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge slammed against him.

The defence counsel, R. A. Ngwu prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, A. O. Ajanaku ordered the remand of the defendants in police custody, and adjourned the case for definite hearing to February 13, 2020.
