A family court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has sentenced a man, Praise Akinloye, to three years’ imprisonment with an option of N250,000 fine after being found guilty of having unlawful sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl.
It was gathered that the 35-year-old man was arrested by the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps after he had committed the offence at FUTA South Gate area of Akure Magisterial District between February 26, 2018 and March 13, 2018.
The convict was arraigned on one count of having unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage girl.
According to the NSCDC Prosecutor, Mr. David Ebriku, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 32(1) and (2) of the Ondo State Child’s Right Law 2007.
He tendered the statement of the convict and the victim as evidence.
However, the counsel to the convict, Mr. Ifeoluwa Omotosho, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In her judgement, the Magistrate, Mrs. Comfort Adeyanju, said she had read gone through the exhibits and held that the convict truly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor.
