Syli Stars of Guinea coach Mohammed Kanfory Bangoura has played down Nigeria’s threat ahead of Tuesday’s African Nations Championship Group C decider billed for Stade Muganda, Ribavu.
In a chat with newsmen, Mohammed maintained that his team is never scared of facing the Nigerian side, adding that Super Eagles can be beaten if all his players can rise to the occasion.
He said his players are not inferior to their Nigerian counterparts strength for strength and that the buck stops at his table to come up with a formation to stop Nigeria on Tuesday.
Guinea Syli Stars’ chances of qualifying for the knockout stages hang by a thread after forcing the Mena of Niger to a 2-2 draw on Friday and they therefore need a win over Nigeria to be guaranteed a place in the last eight.
But Bangoura has stated that his players won’t be overwhelmed by the big occasion given the level of experience his team have gained with two matches under their belt. He however warned that underrating his players would be counterproductive for coach Sunday Oliseh come Tuesday.
“We have been playing our matches here with confidence,” Bangoura said.
“As you can see, we have been scoring goals and that has never been a problem for us.
“We know Nigeria is a good side and they have been doing extremely well in this tournament but we are not afraid of them. I’m confident Nigeria can be beaten come Tuesday.”
