Central Hospital project: Activist backs Obaseki’s move to probe Oshiomhole

A prominent civil society activist in Edo and the speaker of Talakawa Parliament, Marxist Kola Edokpayi  has commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for having the courage to probe the alleged fraud that characterized the construction of the five-star Central Hospital Benin City by his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The Edo State Government had on Sunday hinted of plans to set up commission of enquiry to probe the billions of naira sunk into the numerous contracts awarded for the building of the hospital.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, in a statement alleged that “actors within the government are calling on the governor to probe the contracts in which billions of tax payers’ money was expended on a project that was poorly executed”

In his reaction on Tuesday, Edokpayi not only commended Obaseki for his uncommon boldness to probe Oshiomhole, his political god father but also urged the governor to prosecute him if found wanting.

According to the activist, “I must commend the governor for having the courage and the boldness in the midst of these crises to probe the administration of his godfather (Oshiomhole). It is the issue they have that is making the governor close to three years now in office to set up a panel to probe the fraud that characterized the construction of the five-star Central Hospital.

“Remember we were on the streets protesting, asking that the hospital commissioned by President Buhari in 2016 be opened for use. As we speak, work is still going on in a project that was commissioned. Let the truth prevail. The truth is all we want, nothing but the truth.

“Even though Governor Obaseki was the head of Economic and Strategic Team during the period under review let this not be a kind of witch-hunt. All we want is truth”, Edokpayi said in a note of finality.
