CDHR, set to tackle kidnapping, drug abuse business in Ogun

In its bid to totally eradicate vices such as kidnapping, cultism and terrorism, the Ogun State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of human rights and  the state police command on Thursday held a solidarity walk in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The solidarity walk was held  in order to create awareness and “say no” to the increasing rate of drug abuse, corruption, kidnapping, and other illegal  businesses in ogun state and in Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Ogun state branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Comrade Olayinka Folarin, while speaking with news men atfer the soliderity work said that, drug abuse, cultism in recent times has become a trend  in major parts of the country, which  ogun is not an exception, adding that the  trend has become worrisome, which is the reason the human right groups and security agencies within the state must raise their voices to curb the unlawful activities.

Folarin also said that it was high time for citizens to come together not only to rebuke crimes, but to also assist the security agencies to reduce criminal activities .

Also, the  Ogun state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi  and The public relations officer of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA), Abdullahi Isa patronised residents living in Ogun State, to collaborate with the security agencies so as to get rid of crimes and criminals.

They also lamented about the increasing rate of crime and called for Unity among residents so as to subdue crimes.

However the Ogun state governor, Senator  Ibikunle Amosun while addressing the group at the Governor’s office, in Okemosan,  lamented the that  rate at which kidnapping and other vices is becoming popular nowadays, is uncalled for, it needs to be totally eradicated, he said.


The Governor  then assured  that, his administration in conjunction with the security agencies will ensure that criminals do not make the state their abode.


” it is expected that residents of ogun state will support the security agencies to curb crimes by giving useful information at all times” Governor Amosun added.
