The National Directorate of Employment (NDE),in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN),has earmarked N25 billion Agriculture loan scheme to encourage self reliance among youths nationwide.
The Director General of the Directorate, Dr. Nasiru Muhammad Ladan Argungu disclosed this in Sokoto weekend at the empowerment of 600 trained women and 400 youths in vocational skills and trades as well the flag off of vocational skills training for 1,000 persons in Sokoto.
During the ceremony, soft loans of N10, 000 was given t each graduand and was conducted by Dr Ladan Argungu who explained that no fewer than 5000 persons would benefit from the N780 million earmarked for the state on agriculture scheme.
He said the aim was to promote entrepreneurial activities in different trades for self reliance explained that the soft loan being disbursed was collateral free, adding” we decided to make it so to ease the difficulties involved for the common man to access.”
The Director General said both the trainers and the trainees would be paid stipends to sufficiently achieve the objective of the scheme.
He commended Senator Aliyu Wamakko for complementing the efforts of federal government by personally sponsoring the additional 400 beneficiaries to make up for the 1000″ our arrangement (NDE) was 600 but Wamakko personally sought to sponsor additional 400 persons.”
In his remarks, Senator Aliyu Wamakko said the initiative was designed by the federal government to avail Sokoto and Nigerian youths the opportunity to learn and put to practice modern trades and techniques so as to enhance enterprenerial and vocational skills in line with global requirements
