…… Directs students on campus to vacate latest 4.00pm.

Following the closure of all the entry gates of Benue State University, Makurdi by the Students on Monday, 2nd September despite all forms of pleading, the vice -Chancellor and the Chairman of the Senate on behalf of the Senate of the Benue State University, Makurdi has approved the closure of the University with immediate effect to avoid the further breakdown of law and order.
The management institution also directed that students on campus should as a matter of urgency vacate latest 4pm on Monday 2nd September, 2019, while calling on Parents/Guardians and the general public to take note.
This is contained in a press release signed by the Registrar of the Benue State University, Makurdi Dr. Mrs. Mfaga Modom for the Management and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect.
The release described closure of the University gates by the Students on the account of 5 Points Grading System as unwarranted.
It explained that the management of Benue State University is aware of the Students grievances especially as it relates to the 5 Points Grading System and it was in recognition of the issue that the Senate of the institution constituted a Committee to consider the appeal made by the students for the recalculation of their previous results from 4 Points Grading System to 5 Points Grading System and submit is recommendations.
The release also revealed that the Committee have requested and received memoranda from the University Community including the Students; who have met severally and it’s report is to be considered at the fourthcoming Senate meeting slated to hold for Thursday, 5th September,2019.
It stated clearly that the Students must acknowledge the fact that the University had already compiled with the directive by the National Universities Commission ( NUC) by reverting to the 5 Points Grading System with effect from the 2018/2019 academic Session.
According to the release on the interim, the University management met the Students and informed them of the efforts of the Senate and appealed for their patience to enable the Committee to complete the assignment, while Management through the Dean of Students Affairs have issued a circular informing the Students of the University efforts.
The management reiterated that it can only consider their appeal when the report of the Senate Committee is received and enjoined Students to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities, policies and properties of the University with the view to allow due process to prevail.
It could be recalled that it is exactly one week that students of Benue State University under the aeges of National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS), baricated all the gates of the institution that their President was shot by unknown gunmen outside the the campus which paralysed the activities of the institution for that day.
