…Terms of Reference/Standard operational procedures unveil

Considering the general prevalence of conflict and insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria and Benue State in particular, in an effort to ensure that peace is enjoined in Benue State where issues that could lead to the breakdown of peace and order are promptly detected and prevented.
This is contained in the agreed Terms of Reference and Standard Operating Procedures for the Forum outlined in the last meeting between Herders and Farmers on the the 12th, December 2018.
Mrs. Kehinde Osotimenhin, Project Manager Peace Project who presented the Terms of Reference/Standard Operational Procedures for Herdsmen and Farmers Peace Forum explained that the Herdsmen and Farmers Peace Forum constitute of relevant stakeholders from Organization in Benue State such as Miyetti Allah, Cattle Breeders Association, Farmers Association.
Others are Traditional leaders, Religious leaders, Civil Society Organisations and Benue State Government whose mandate is to highlight new new and inspirational ideas for the prevention of violence and sustaining peace.
She explained that the Forum will be a coordination mechanism to facilitate cooperation and collaboration among members, to enhance the effectiveness of the member agencies and to further broker peace in Benue State.
The project Manager also said the Vision of the Benue Peace Forum is to promote conditions that can enable sustainable peace, the resolutions of conflict, reduction of violence and contribute to durable peace in Benue State.
The Benue Peace Forum will promote the culture of Peace and harmonious coexistence among the diverse ethno – religious groups in the State.
The mission of the Herdsmen and Farmers Peace Forum according to the Project Manager is to encourage sustainable peace,early detection and response to the issues that may lead to conflict within Benue State and enhance a quick resolution of such conflicts.
She further stated that the present Terms of Reference describes the Standard Operational Procedures, membership status, duties, roles and responsibilities as an operational working mechanism to enhance relevant stakeholders to be members of the Herdsmen and Farmers Forum.
Nigerian NewsDirect reports that highlight of the Herdsmen and Farmers Peace Forum meeting anchored by the UN peace Project Manager to include; Recommendations from the Benue State Peace seminar — Statement and communique, recap of the Agreed Terms of Reference and Standard Operating Procedures for the Forum, project progress, challenges and way forward.
NND further reports that stakeholders were given the opportunity to ask questions and contribute on issues that were not clear to them with UN delegation providing answers accordingly.
The UN delegation will on Thursday 22nd August, 2019 will visit Guma local government area of Benue the country home of the Governor of Benue State to see the land donated by the community for UN project which center on providing an alternative source of livelihood to the displaced people.
