Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, revealed that the Nigerian Army would in 2018 carry out operations similar to the ones carried out the outgoing year.
Buratai revealed this in his opening remark at the 2017 Chef of Army Staff Annual Conference going on in Ibadan, with the theme, “Reappraising the Nigerian Army’s Operational Efficiency in Containing Contemporary National Security.”
President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by General Gabriel Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff, at the event, which had Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and representatives of governors of Edo, Ondo and Osun states in attendance.
In a speech delivered on behalf of President Buhari by General Olonisakin, the president commended the Nigerian Army for the promotion of security in the country.
President Buhari, however, promised that his administration would continue to give necessary support needed by the Nigerian Army to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
Earlier in his opening remark, the army chief maintained that the outgoing 2017 was eventful, as the Nigerian Army was able to respond to most of the security challenges in the country through different operations, including Operation Lafia Dolle, Operation Crocodile Smile 11, Operation Python Dance 11 and so on.
