Akwa Ibom Assembly: APC plotting forceful takeover –PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting a forceful takeover of Akwa Ibom State and other littoral states controlled by the opposition party.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said this at a press briefing at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Ologbondiyan recalled that, recently, the former governor of Akwa Ibom, Senator Godswill Akpabio, vowed that the APC will takeover the state in the 2019 general election the same way Adolf Hitler overran Poland.

The spokesman noted that after that statement, President Muhammadu Buhari, as the chief security officer of the country, never reprimanded Akpabio, neither was he questioned by security agencies.

Ologbondiyan said: “It’s now clear that the statement is an approved prelude of a premeditated plot by the Buhari Presidency and the APC, to initiate, facilitate and superintend a mayhem and bloodletting in the peaceful and developing Akwa Ibom, irrespective of the huge human and material damage such could cause in the state.

“Part of the plot is the forceful attempt to take- over control of the Akwa- Ibom State legislature, for which the Presidency and the APC have been sponsoring the invasion of the House of Assembly complex and seeking ways to violently oust the duly elected leadership of the Assembly.”

Meanwhile, APC has described as ‘political rascality’ the sacking of five members of House of Assembly by the speaker, Luke, for defecting from PDP to APC.

Chairman of the party, Ini Okopido, while addressing newsmen, yesterday, said the party will stand by the decision of the five aggrieved lawmakers, on the election of a new speaker, Nse Ntuen, explaining that the Federal High Court had, on November 21, ordered a stay of execution in favour of one of the aggrieved law- makers, Ituen, representing Itu constituency.

“The ruling in respect of the stay of execution of the judgment against Ituen, which was adjourned to today, November 21, 2018, had been delivered by the Federal High Court in favour of Ituen.

“The APC in Akwa Ibom State cannot and will not accept the act of impunity and political rascality displayed by the former speaker, in declaring the five seats of our members in the Assembly vacant,” he said.
