Akwa Ibom Government is expected to spend N70 billion project to control flood menace that has cause havoc across IBB Avenue and its environment, especially affected the state secretariat complex.
The commissioner for finance, Mr. Nsikak Nkan, told newsmen in Uyo, that government is ready to execute the flood project but the issue at hand is that most citizens are not paying their taxes.
Nkan said the development has deprived government of public finance for successful execution of its social contract with the people including infrastructure development and other fiscal commitment, as it looks as if government is not interested to execute the project.
The commissioner said despite executing the project, a lot of houses would be demolished for proper job specification in respect to have effective drainage system with global standard that would be done by qualified company.
The commissioner has advised tax defaulters to take advantage of the voluntary assets and income declaration scheme launched by the federal govern-ment for their own benefits.
