Ahead of 2019: Personal interest tears APC apart

By Yamah Abdulateef

As the 2019 general elections draw near, the alignments and positioning of the various blocs that form the APC are showing up their true colours ahead of 2019 general elections.

Across the country, most state chapters of the APC are currently enmeshed in battles of supremacy which had polarised the party and therefore, put the party on the brink of breaking before 2019 elections.

It would be recalled that, the inability of the APC to elect its officials at the National Assembly and as well, unite all factions of the party is the genesis of its political problems.

According to Timi Frank, a former acting spokesperson of the APC, told Nigeria NewsDirect that the APC and its myriad of problems has made the party more vulnerable to crisis and disunity.

He further stated that, the party hierarchy’s inability to unite the members and create the enabling environment for the party to move on and open up to new ideas is the missing link the party is missing.

Timi Frank however, pointted to the fact that, the party today is not on a good footing but on the heels of stingy individuals who are loyal to themselves and not the party in general.

He however sighted the El-Rufai and Shehu Sani debacle in Kaduna, Kwankwaso and Ganduje fight in Kano as a true reflection of what is happening in the party.

According to Sumaila Dan Soho of the Atikulated Movement, stated that, the recent comments by Aisha Jummai Alhassan, the minister of Women Affairs is a pointer to the fact that the cracks in the APC are beginning to be wide open for Nigerians to see, as those who claim to be Buharists are only playing to the gallery.

For Aisha Jummai Alhassan, the Minister of Women Affairs and youth development President, Muhammadu Buhari agreed on a one-term and she would support Atiku Abubakar in 2019 which did not go well with the members of the party who felt slighted by her outburst is self serving on the part of those who see themselves as Buharists, says Suleiman.

Sulaiman Dan Soho, further added that, rather than the party to hold a convention and reposition the party and reconcile aggrieved members, they are busy fighting themselves.

He said, there are more psychophants in the party than loyalists and when the time comes, Nigerians will know who are for BUHARI and who are against Buhari. Let’s not forget that the president’s wife, Aisha Buhari talked about those around the president and how they have hijacked the presidency, they are the ones shouting to high heavens, we are Buharists.
