Abiodun unveils state jobs portal, gives instant employment to 20 unemployed graduates Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Thursday during the launch of the state jobs portal,  a special website created to document the unemployed and available jobs in the state, gave 20 unemployed graduates instant employment into the public service of the state.

The lucky youths were selected base on their excellent performance from the aptitude test conducted during the launch of the job portal. Over 5,000 youths who came for the event held at June 12, Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta participated in the online exercise conducted by the newly appointed Special Adviser to the governor on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment, Mr Lekan Olude.

The diginitaries at the event included, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President, Engr Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the deputy governor, the Speaker, state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo, Sen Tolu Odebiyi, Sen Gbenga Kaka and Prince Segun Adesegun, former deputy governors of the state, royal fathers led by Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle among others.

Prince Dapo Abiodun speaking at the event said the desire of his government to use the instrument of technology to fight off the problem of unemployment among the teeming youth informed the launch of the state job portal

The website given as jobs.ogunstate.gov.ng according to the governor would give the unemployed in the state the opportunity to register on the website as well as the potential employers providing platform for the unemployed to meet with potential employers.

Prince Abiodun said “the job portal will serve as the data base for the unemployed and potential employers in the state, it will help  us to get our Youth off the street and match them with available jobs while helping to provide the data base to allocate the job for our people”.

The governor said the country is sitting on keg of gun powder if it fails to address creatively the challenges of unemployment confronting millions of its youths.

Promising that his government would leave no stone unturned to defeat the challenges of unemployment among the youth, the governor said aside massive investment in agriculture with a view to empowering the youth, he would also very soon send a bill to state House of Assembly making it compulsory for companies operating in the state to always consider first the people of the state for employment opportunities.

The Vice President of the country, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has however lauded Gov Abiodun for his creative approach towards solving the national problem of unemployment promising that the federal government would support all the governor’s drive to get the people gainfully employed and contribute to the development of the nation.

Prof Osinbajo in his short remark at the occasion said some of the federal government moves tailored to fight unemployment such as the N-Power scheme which had taken 500,000 youths off the street will soon be expanded to accommodate additional 500,000 youths.

The VP appealed to the youths to consider tapping from the abundant opportunities in agriculture insisting that the best paying job has not been found to be that of white collar.

One of the beneficiaries of the automatic employment, Aboaba Oluwafemi, a 2014 Geo-Physcis graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) said he was short of words over the unexpected kind gesture of the governor of the state saying that he never believed his search for job would end yesterday.

Aboaba said “I am grateful to the governor for giving me this automatic employment without knowing anybody. I have been doing all manner of jobs to keep body and soul together and it was of recent that I settled for event planning. I am really excited at this offer and I will definitely do my best to lift the state to the next level”.
