Abia State New Commis-sioner of Police CP Chris Okey Ezike briefed newsmen 28th November, 2018 at the Command Officers Mess, Umuahia.
This he stated being his first media briefing since assumption of duty on 12th of November, 2018, that he had crisscrossed the length and breadth of Abia State, studied handover notes consulted with the chief executive of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and some of his principal officers, paid courtesies and to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9 Umuahia, AIG Hosea Karma and held inaugural meetings with the Area Commanders, Heads of Departments, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders on the 19th of November, 2018 OF which he received briefs and counsels that assisted in Shaping the New Generation of strategic policing under his watch, he said.
According to him, Abia State is at the middle and mercy of several other states whose activities impact either positively or negatively on the security and safety of Abians who share boundary with Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States.
More so, the gateways and getaway nature of our road networks which facilitate tourism, trade and commerce has also donated entrance and exit impetus to potential criminals in the commission of nefarious crimes to which N7,933,900.00 was recovered from empowerment scam alone.
With his experiences of profession and services “I intend bringing quality policing, better, safer and prosperous environment to the people of Abians, he said”.
Adding that “reduction of crime, Anti-Social behaviours, enhancing security to which police have immensely dealt with principal focus of the police by fighting violent crimes of armed-robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other social disorders. Partnering other security agencies, promoting community policing, building positive bridges between the police and traditional rulers, LGA’s, student groups, professional bodies, traders, private sector organizations, NGO’s and media to fight corruption, enhance traffic control and provision of security to Diasporas and Abians as a whole who may return for seasonal celebrations.
In his speech, “Robust preparations for the 2019 elections which has started with political campaigns involves continuous monitoring of outlawed groups with high visibility policing methodology.
Ensuring accountability policing, the command has established monitoring unit and appointed a chief superintendent of police as the officer in charge in his duties to ensure that police activities are with conformity with rules and laws of the state”.
CP Ezike also said, making use of technology in tackling the menace in the state, among which are , cultism, arrest of suspected notorious fraudsters, robbers, and vehicle snatchers, armed-robbering suspects, kidnappers, grievious bodily harm/child abuse, arrest of suspected IPOB/BIM members, cases of conspiracy, fraud, forgery under false pretenses, operation of illegal cooperative societies and financial institutions, empowerment scam suspects, unlawful possession of firearms, cartridges, ammunitions. All these through intelligent information from all over the 17 local governments areas of the state.
Abia has so far recovered 100,000.00 out of 454,000.00 through bank threats, 22 groups of fraudsters, 18 suspects, 6,728 complainants, 7,933,900 recovery and 91,182,369.69 discovery from empowerment saggar which that statistic I have that of Umuahia is not to quantify that of Aba, he concluded.
