The forum of South East and South South Governors have expressed worry over what it termed as dearth of infrastructure and unjustified lack of significant federal presence in the South East and South South regions of the country as the forum lauded the effort of the National Assembly in amending the constitution of the country.
The governors also told the media after the meeting that having discussed prevalent political atmosphere in the country, they have resolved that they (the two regions) will go in one direction which will be beneficial to the political future to the people of the region.
, While reading the communiqué of the meeting which extended to almost midnight on Sunday, the Akwa Ibom State governor , Emmanuel Udom, who is the Chairman of the forum called for more attention to be paid to the infrastructure needs of the regions by the Federal Government. He also reiterated the determination of the governors to improve the welfare of the people in the two geo political zones in the country through provision of basic amenities and development of infrastructures that are necessary for well-being of the people.
The governors also used the occasion to commend some patriots in instituting broad based negotiation between the regions of the North and South East which led to the set aside of the so called “quit notice” issued by “misguided northern youths” to Igbos resident in the north.
“The forum also expressed hope that it will be the last time any person or group will make any statement or take action that suggests that any part of the country is a no go area to other Nigerians” Udom said.
At the forum meeting in Owerri, capital of Imo States, all the eleven governors from the two geopolitical zones were present except Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Willie Obiano of Anambra State who was represented by his deputy and the governor of Ebonyi State David Umahi.
Governors in attendance include, Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state. Others include, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state,Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State.Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano was represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.
There was prayer session organized and conducted by the governors before the meeting started. All the governors took turn to pray, sing and preach at the service.
The next meeting of the forum holds in Uyo on Sunday, November 26.
