The Airport Fire and Safety Cooperative Multipurpose Society have inaugurated new executive members during the hotel unveiling at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The outgoing President, Mr. Richard Tella Gbadegeshin, in his welcome speech, gave a brief history of the society as he mentioned some of the milestone achievements of the cooperative.
Mr. Tella, when interviewed revealed that the hotel building has been a long time vision of the cooperative since inception.
He disclosed further that the original plan to acquire a land of its own in this environment had been a major challenge which had led to buying a property that was furnished and converted to this edifice.
He explained that members came up with the idea of having their own hotel at a discount rate to fill some gaps within the aviation that will serve some of their members from outstation who find it difficult to get a place to stay whenever they come around.
He also said that it will serve the communities around especially the travelers who don’t want to miss their flight though there is space constraint but there has been a plan to acquire more space that will feature facilities like bar station, swimming pool, car park among others in the future.
In his words: “It will be difficult to tell you the actual figure it cost but it is less than N150 million with about 22 all en suite rooms of 2 floors edifice.
However, he assured the customers of efficient and effective security with the help of close circuit system to monitor the identity of whoever that is coming in and out of the hotel.
Commending the executive members, the Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, represented by Director of Security Services, Capt. Usman Abubakar Sadiq (Rtd) assured the cooperative of their intervention in the area of immediate concerns which include security, electricity and furnishing of the giant edifice.
Usman guaranteed that the management will consider and see how best to tackle them stressing that this laudable project is actually in line with that of federal government desire to please this noble agenda which has to do with eradicating corruption, improving security and economic development.
He urged the organisers to do more, while commending the laudable initiative having agreed that it will add value and improve the GDP no matter how little in the nation economy.
He said that the minister for aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, in his goodwill message wished other parastatal, division and aviation sector personnel to adopt such measure to assist not only the south but the surrounding communities.
Abubakar Sadiq said, “I want to implore and urge those who are yet to join to please try and see how you key into this noble objectives, it is a very good development. The director of this operation has been trying right from the onset when we are coming that I should please join, so Mr. President I will soon be your subject.
“So on that note I once more wish to thank the organizers and all the people that have come here to grace this occasion, we wish you the best of luck and also this edifice God protection.”
In an interview with the journalists, the new president, Alhaji Sadiq Saheed, said we have a robust action plan to implement in this new dispensation and this place is not left out.
According to him, “Everything we are going to do here in this edifice will conform to the standard prevailing in the industry, so maintenance is upper most in our priority.
Alhaji Sadiq mentioned that the hotel will be branded in way that whatever is coming into this place in terms of activities will be a complete departure from what is prevailing in this environment.
He, however, stated that background check of the workers will be carried out as this is a basic requirement by the ministry that regulates our activities.
