The new Commissioner of Police for Ogun state, Bashir Makama has pledged not to let down residents of the state vowing to use the instrument of community policing to sustain peace and stability being enjoyed in the state.
Makama said he had come to the state to serve with fear of God, transparency, credibility and accountability as his watchword saying his door is always opened for efforts and suggestion that would further enhance effective policing of the Gateway state.
The new CP stated this while taking over the command from the former police helmsman in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu who has been deployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Makama said he was conscious of the state being adjudged as one of the most peaceful in the country saying “having been part of community policing since it was introduced in 2004, I have found the strategy to be very effective as it makes everyone to be security conscious and the job easier. So, I will surely be going by this strategy for effective policing and sustaining peace in the state”.
He lauded the officers for the warm reception accorded him adding that this made him feel welcome to the state and therefore requested that they cooperate with him towards the onerous task of keeping the state safe from criminals.
CP Makama however vowed not to take kindly any act of disrespect or humiliation meted to any of the police officers in the state as this he said was counterproductive and would therefore not be condoned or encouraged.
Earlier, the outgoing Commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu urged the new CP to work with the people as this was the secret of his milestone achievement in achieving peace in the state.
Iliyasu lauded the men of the police command for their support and cooperation maintaining that they were quite instrumental to protecting lives and properties in the state since he took over the command in 2016 urging them to cooperate with the new CP to rid the state of all undesirable elements
Iliyasu commended members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Ogun state and their leaders such as Chief Mrs Adesola Adebutu, National Vice Chairman of the association, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyonu, Vice-Chairman (PCRC) Southwest and the state Chairman, Past Lawson among others for their rock solid support and partnership towards combating crime in the state.
